Visionary Leadership Institute
The Visionary Leadership Institute is a ten-day program taught by our Peruvian professors comprised of personal empowerment and leadership training in week 1, and exploration of community stewardship and sustainable development in week 2.
Week 1: Leadership & Empowerment for Visionary Leaders
Empowerment training will foster our women’s sense of self, resulting in greater self-esteem, motivation, self-respect, and self-reliance. This serves as the foundation that enables the other efforts to succeed. Through fostering sense of self, our Visionarias can enhance their personal voice and increase their abilities to take advantage of opportunities.
Leadership development can increase the abilities of young women to succeed within their community initiatives and own lives. Basic leadership indicators which the training addresses positively include presentation skills, public speaking, personal presentation, personal and collective brainstorming, time management, team engagement to achieve identified goals, communication skills, and critical thinking. Social entrepreneurship leadership training engages our young women as agents of social change through creating social change ventures (week 2). Social entrepreneurship training helps our you women to identify personal perspectives of entrepreneurship in their own social contexts, encourage creativity and lead to the development of plans of action.
Week 2: Sustainable Development Exploration for Community Stewards
Exploration of sustainable development topics critical to health and environment within the Sacred Valley Region. We explore topics related to cooking, drinking, and lighting through: (1) case studies and (2) scholar excursions with local NGOs addressing identified sustainable development issues.
The Visionarias reevaluate their own visions for community change and identify additional critical social and environmental issues within their communities.
At the end of the institute, the girls form teams to apply themselves as visionary leaders and community stewards. Each team addresses one sustainable development issue that they have identified as critical in their communities and create a plan of action for implementation.
In Year 1 the plan of action focuses on building awareness and conducting needs assessment on their identified issue.
In Year 2 the plan of action focuses on full project implementation.
In Year 3 the plan of action focuses on monitoring and evaluation, as well as exploration of business development.
